SPR Seeks Editor for SPR Website (continued from Home page)
After five years as SPR web editor, Dr. Mary Wyers announces her wish to step down from the position.
The Board thanks Dr. Wyers for her service which included a major renewal of the site in 2007, the launch of the very popular Unknown Case program and the development of content-rich committee pages in collaboration with the Society's committees.
The Board now calls for interested candidates for the position from the membership. The role involves developing a vision for the SPR website content with a goal serving the needs of the members, the medical public and the lay public (patients and their parents). The Web editor will have some latitude in developing a Society structure to support the initiative. For example, Dr. Wyers identified an assistant editor. The next editor may wish to convene a committee made of SPR committee representatives. The staff serves as auxiliary editors, updating and maintaining Society Business content and communicating with the host company to arrange functional changes.
Dr. Wyers notes the time commitment is variable depending on the status of projects. Specific projects such as when the site was re-worked in 2007, or developing new committee pages, have taken a number of hours. Most of the average, routine work involves communication such as answering emails, and updating the unknown cases every 2-3 weeks.
To gain a clearer perspective, Dr. Wyers welcomes your inquiries at MWyers@luriechildrens.org.
Application packets should be submitted to the Search Committee by April 15, 2013. The complete application includes:
- Potential candidates should explain how they view the current state of communication of educational material and other content through a website, and any future direction or changes they would like to make (i.e. what is the best way to communicate to the SPR members and public through a website).
- Candidates should describe projects or other goals they have for the website.
- Candidates should submit a CV.
- The Board will require a letter of support from the Department Chair before the appointment is made. Candidates may submit such a letter at the time of application.
Submit by email by April 15, 2012 to SPR Web editor Search Committee c/o Jennifer Boylan at firstname.lastname@example.org. We anticipate the decision will be announced at the SPR Members Business meeting in San Antonio.
