The plans for IPR 2006 Meeting are all but complete. We, on the SPR Board of Directors, are delighted to host this assembly of pediatric radiologists from across the globe. There are so many opportunities to learn: at the postgraduate course, in the meeting rooms and from each other in the hallways and over glasses of wine. Come help us welcome the world’s pediatric radiologists to Montreal!
We hope you have made your plans to attend this exciting meeting in an incredible city. If you are still deciding – or negotiating time away with your colleagues – visit the Meeting page of our website (www.pedrad.org) for all the details on the program and hotel arrangements.
We have planned some extraordinary social events, including the Welcome Reception at the Chalet de la Montagne which affords a breathtaking view of the city, as well as the Concert which will take place at the Notre-Dame Basilica, one of the finest examples of English gothic revival architecture.
This meeting is truly the product of international planning – made especially productive by the creativity and responsiveness of our ESPR colleagues: Richard Fotter and Fred Avni. The communication, interaction and collaboration between our organizations was stimulating and intensive. We have to ask – how did our precursors plan IPR meetings before email?
Thanks are due to Michael Callahan for his assembly and coordination of the outstanding roster of speakers for the postgraduate course.
We are grateful that our friends in the ESPR plan to participate in the Campaign for Children auction and the members’ Art Show. We know it will be especially interesting with their contributions. Thanks again to SPR’s artist in residence – Jane McMillan – for her work in organizing this event.
Thanks also to our members from Montreal, led by Laurent Garel, for their graciousness as local hosts and their invaluable guidance in the planning process.
Notes regarding this mailing: this envelope includes the ballots for the election of the slate developed by the Nominating Committee and for the election of new members of the Nominating Committee. Active members are encouraged to submit their ballots. There will be no elections held onsite.
We also ask you to review the roster of new member applications. These member candidates’ election to membership is automatic unless a member notifies us that there is a reason any one of them is not eligible. The Membership Committee, Kathy Emery, Chair and Members, Kristin Thomas and Bob Lorenzo have reviewed these applications and have approved.
Also note the agenda for the Members Business meeting and the email update request in this envelope.
The SPR Board has made empowering member communication among its highest priorities this past year. We have launched the new website and the members list serv in the past few months. The list serv concept was explored and, ultimately, approved as a result of requests received simultaneously from the Community Hospital-based Pediatric Radiologists, Kristin Crisci, Chair, and the Child Abuse Committee, Gael Lonergan, Chair. We welcome your ideas. For more information on this new service, visit the Members only pages of the website or contact Jennifer Boylan at JBoylan@acr.org.
If you have an idea or an issue you wish brought to our attention, contact any member of the Board or the applicable Committee chair. The SPR Board meets face-to face twice per year (RSNA and SPR), but we also conduct up to four conference call meetings as well. We are prepared to respond to proposals from the members and committees.
When the world of pediatric radiology convenes, the opportunities to meet in smaller groups abound. We invite you to refer to the calendar online on the website to learn about other meetings during IPR week and throughout the year. Events posted now for IPR week include:
- Committee meetings at IPR
- AAWR luncheon (Thursday, May 18 – registration materials required and posted online)
- Fellows Luncheon (Thursday, May 18 – medical students, residents and fellows – RSVP to JBoylan@acr.org)
We hope to see you all in Montreal. Help us host the world!
